Our History
The Laramie Montessori Community Organization (LMCO) was formed in 2008 by a group of dedicated parents who desired another choice for elementary education in Laramie. The organization sponsored a charter application to Albany County School District #1 in 2011 after many years of planning, meeting with stakeholders, and adapting to the evolving state charter law. The charter was approved on February 15, 2011 and the Laramie Montessori School (LMS) officially opened in August of 2011.
LMCO continued to support the School through the first years with fiscal sponsorship and management of start-up grants. The organization also regularly hosts a biannual fundraiser, Starry Night Out. In 2016, the Charter School applied for and was awarded a second 5 year charter from the School District. LMCO's name was changed to Friends of Laramie Montessori (FLM) to clearly designate its role as a supporting foundation for the School (and to minimize confusion). FLM continues to support LMS development efforts through management of a designated fund.

Today FLM is focused on supporting a primary (preschool) program in Laramie through grants management and a scholarship program. The preschool is a cost competitive early childhood education option, with daycare for working families. FLM also provides consulting for Wyoming communities striving to begin charter Montessori schools. Fundraising for these programs is predominantly through our adult spelling contest, LaraBEE.
